For a lot of people, studying itself isn’t the issue - getting started is the hard part! In this day and age, there are so many distractions around us that tearing yourself away from that last BuzzFeed article and starting your essay on To Kill A Mockingbird can seem like a truly impossible task.

We’ve come up with some tips and tricks to ensure that you get into the right mindset for studying quickly and easily!

Step 1: Turn off your mobile phone!

It sounds easy, but in reality it can be hard to stop browsing YouTube or answering your friends’ texts when you should really be concentrating on that essay. So step 1 is one of the most integral parts of the studying process - get rid of that device which is literally designed to be distracting!

Step 2: Get comfy...but not too comfy!

Having a good study space is really important - somewhere where you can’t be distracted by too much noise, or uncomfortable seating and such. So find a good comfortable chair and a desk with enough space to lay out your work. Don’t get too comfy though, I find that trying to do your work in bed never works...

Step 3: Have a game plan!

Decide what you’re going to study before you start working. That way, you can have a clear mind set going into your study session, and there won’t be any confusion over what to start with getting in the way and causing you to put off studying!

Step 4: Set reasonable goals!

As well as knowing what you want to work on, know when to stop! Don’t give yourself too much work to do in one go as this can often make studying seem daunting and make you want to study even less. Give yourself more bite sized chunks of work to do per study session - for example, just do a paragraph of your essay today and do the second paragraph tomorrow and so on. This way studying won’t seem like such an impossible task.

Step 5: Reward yourself!

After a solid chunk of work, remember to look after yourself too! It’s good to relax after studying just as a way to unwind and get back to reality. Furthermore, if you know you have a treat lined up after your revision, it might just give you that extra bit of motivation to get through the work!

Hopefully following these five little steps will help you create the best possible situation for studying!
